It Must be Karma

It Must be

Karma

People often talk glibly about Karma – but do we really know what it is?

Have you ever met someone who has blamed Karma as an excuse for having so many challenges in life? “I’m not getting better because it’s Karmic” or “I can never be happy because it’s Karma” – “I must have been a bad person in a previous life as everything seems to go wrong – it must be Karma!”

Well maybe – or do some people use it as an excuse?

Karma is really about balance – not about getting even!  I have listened to people on our workshops say they know people who must have been cruel or violent in a previous life – as they are now on the receiving end of many of those same experiences in this lifetime.

One thing I do know for sure is that Karma comes back to us very quickly these days.

When we had our Healing Center in England, we had a number of therapists working there giving different treatments – one of whom was an acupuncturist.

A friend of ours, who was a university lecturer, was having acupuncture for the first time and I know he was a bit anxious before his session. The healing room was attached to our house, and I just happen to be walking past when his session started and I heard this loud scream for help as the first needle went in.

I know I have a strange sense of humor, but I could not stop laughing to myself hearing Steve shouting out in pain for just a needle.

Later that same afternoon I walk out to our shed to chop up some logs for the fire – and just had on flip flops. I accidentally stood on an upright nail that went straight through the sole of my flip-flops and buried itself into my foot.

As I hobbled into the house Kim was quick to point out that it served me right - and that Karma had manifested itself very quickly!!

So, as you go through your days – be careful what you think, what you say, and what you do to the detriment of others – it may come back and bite you in the foot!

We also experienced another fascinating situation some years ago when we decided to go away for the weekend in Dorset, a beautiful county in the South of England.  We had not booked accommodation believing it would be easy to find somewhere – but it was not!

In the end, we had to drive to the next village which was Corfe – a beautiful place with the ruins of an old castle in the town center.

We found a bed and breakfast to stay in and decided to walk around and look at the sights.  No sooner were we in the street than Kim said we must go this way. Neither of us had been there before so I was a bit surprised, but I followed. We went down alleyways, crossed car parks, and eventually found ourselves at a cemetery – not my idea of a weekend away!

However, by now Kim was like a bloodhound and without hesitation said we need to go this way. We walked through the gate, and she quickly walked to the far corner of the cemetery where she stopped at two gravestones.  One was named “Vincent” (Kim’s last name) and the named “Ford” – my last name.

We both left the cemetery a lot faster than we walked in – and headed straight for the nearest pub!!

So, when you feel guided or driven to do something outside of your comfort zone – follow that intuitive voice within – and who knows, you too may stumble across something weird!
