Are you fulfilling your Life Purpose

Are you fulfilling your
Life Purpose

My belief is that each one of us has a unique gift that we bring into this lifetime - unfortunately, it does not come with an explanation and a user guide!

We all yearn for that elusive sense of fulfillment that comes from knowing we are on the right path. The pursuit of our life purpose is not merely an abstract idea but a tangible quest that can profoundly impact our well-being and sense of contentment. So, how can we embark on this transformative journey of self-discovery and find our true-life purpose?

I felt inspired to write about this topic this week after receiving an email from a client, Katie from Santa Barbara.

Katie came for a healing session some months ago, the presenting problem being issues with her right knee. As a young lady who loves sports, she was frustrated at not being able to participate in a number of her favorite sports - especially “spinning”

I explained that often the metaphysical cause behind knee issues is that on some level we are not moving forward in our lives. We are in a rut.

Katie questioned the wisdom of the universe in stopping her from doing sports that she loved.

My response was that maybe the universe needed her to pause, look at her life and maybe move in a different direction.

During the healing session, I also sensed a deep sadness in Katie - which I also shared with her.

I felt that Katie was destined for greater things – and again I shared my sense was that she was here to make a difference in the world.

Imagine my surprise when I received this email from her a week or so ago – which she is happy for me to share with you.

“I hope you are well! I am writing to you from the heart of the Amazon jungle in Colombia! I just wanted to take a moment to thank you and give you an update on where life has taken me since our last healing session on Mother's Day. I remember you picked up on an under-the-surface sadness that existed in me for not fully living out my potential/dream.

That really resonated with me and although was hard to hear, I knew it was true. I gave myself space to dream again and think about where my soul feels most alive. The answer came through right away: Colombia. 8 years ago,

I lived here for one year as a Fulbright Scholar and I started a social research project among displaced Afro-Colombian youth living in poverty. It is when I felt most alive.

Since then, I moved back to SB to pursue another dream: founding my nonprofit Mission Scholars to empower low-income youth on the path to college and career. But most of my work now is administrative, running the business side of things, writing grants, etc (vs. working directly with students). So I think that's why you picked up on my sadness from me in our session. It was spot on and really struck me, pushing me to make a change.

So I followed my heart, sent a bunch of emails, and got a donation from the Southern California Tennis Association for 18 youth tennis rackets and a portable tennis net. I called the foundation in Cali, Colombia where I use to work to see if I could implement a "Tennis and Dreams" week-long program, and booked my flight to Colombia, taking 2 weeks off work, in pursuit of a dream and filling my soul. Last week, I implemented the tennis clinic, and it was the best week of my life.

I have attached a few pictures below. I felt so alive, so full of joy, so full. It wasn't about the tennis. It was about creating a space for these students to discover their untapped potential and spark something in them that makes them dream bigger for their futures. This week, I'm exploring the Amazon jungle, allowing myself space and time to process it all.

Thank you, Roger, for your healing work. It impacted me in a big way. I remember that you said that I will be someone that helps a lot of people. And I believe that with my whole heart. From a really young age, I've always felt like I was destined for something big. I want to be a conduit of love to everyone and anyone in my path. And in Colombia, I did just that.

I just wrote this journal entry that I thought I would share with you in case you're interested in hearing more about my street tennis clinic:

Your work really impacts people’s lives and I just wanted to send this to you as living proof. And I'm just getting started! I have so many ideas of doing this 2 times per year in places all over Latin America, sparking a dream revolution using tennis as a vehicle.

Thank you for helping me see myself and my life in a new light. “

A few days later I received another email saying “I’m on the plane home, I already typed out a proposal to pitch the idea of implementing an “Ace Your Dreams” 5-day Tennis and Dreams workshop for youth in Latin America where I could go twice a year to facilitate it. The ideas are just spilling out of me, and I hope to present it to some donors to see if anyone is interested in funding it. I am confident it can be incredibly impactful.

Yes, please feel free to use my story for your next newsletter. I am honored and I hope my story can inspire others as well.

Just got home today and am excited for all that is ahead.

So, here is someone who has found the reason she is here – and I think you will agree what an amazing future Katie has – doing good for people who need help most.

Next week I will share some thoughts about how each of us can find whatever it is that resonates deep within our soul – and like Katie – you life will never be the same again.

“Each one of us has the ability to heal ourselves-and others.  That gift, which is often dormant, can be awakened and used to transform our lives, and those around us, into something remarkable”
