The Definition of Integrity

The Definition of Integrity

The definition of Integrity is that it is the practice of being honest and showing a consistent and uncompromising adherence to strong moral and ethical principles and values.

To me a person of integrity is someone who has a strong character and can be totally honest because they have nothing to hide because there is no fear of being “caught out”.

They usually have confidence in themselves and always see the best in others.

Have you ever worked with someone who has these qualities?  If so, you are lucky and will know the loyalty this engenders, you want to give your all because of the respect you have for them.

In my experiences over the years of working within different organizations I can count on one hand the number of people who I can honestly say have integrity.  One person springs to mind and the whole group I was part of really had time for this person and he seemed at peace with himself, his work and all of his team.

With him it was not a choice – non-negotiable – and everyone knew exactly where they stood, and he would always support you during a dispute.  He was fair, honest and I felt it was a privilege to be part of his department and we broke all targets that were set.

Unfortunately I also experienced working with quite the opposite type of person – people who would lie, blame anyone but themselves for any problems and be inconsistent in their behavior.

Feeling of insecurity were rampant in their group, and turnover was high as we never trusted them.

As you know, we cannot change people – we can only change ourselves, but like Alysia, by showing integrity and wisdom to others, we give them the opportunity of making changes.

It’s amazing how many do!
